We've done
Safer Bristol Partnership - Substance Misuse and Criminal Justice System
CPI trained partnership staff on working with substance misusers referred to the service from the criminal justice system to measure whether services were meeting client's needs. The focus was on improving attrition and retention rates.
Government Office for the South East - Brighton Alcohol Project
The Government Office for the South East asked our team to help with new ideas for tackling alcohol-related problems in Brighton & Hove over the Christmas period. Working with the Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnership, we launched a campaign to find local people with suggestions for innovative projects that impact on this problem. A small grant fund was made available to fund the best ideas. More information is available from mark.napier@publicinnovation.org.uk.

London Resettlement Team
CPI implemented a grant programme to faith-based organisations to help them organise projects that help ex-offenders. Every month, 1200 Londoners - half of them with a BME background - are released from prison and often fall back into bad habits because of lack of support and family help. This project is looking for innovative ways to help them. To find out more, contact Mark Napier on mark.napier@publicinnovation.org.uk, call 020 7922 7823 or text faith to 07852 982 309. The deadline for applications has now passed.
Home Office - Court Diversion and Liaison Schemes Review
An investigation was commissioned by Health and Offender Partnerships in 2005 to report on how court liaison and diversion schemes, at the time, identified and worked with people with mental health problems who had committed offences. The report made several recommendations for ways in which the health and social care outcomes for this population could be improved.
Government Office West Midlands - Beyond Management Training
One of the goals of the Government Office for the West Midlands is "safer communities in West Midlands driven by strong leadership across local delivery partnerships". CPI delivered a programme of training and coaching to improve complex partnership working arrangements. It was specifically designed for the leaders of 25 Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships in the Region using the principle of dispersed leadership as its main approach.
Hertfordshire Constabulary - Police Innovation
A small initial study revealed that it was difficult for low ranking police officers in the county to come forward with - or progress - new ideas to improve work practices. CPI is helping change this with a scheme to encourage at least 15 front-line officers to devise small innovative projects that will be funded, tried and tested to improve customer services.
National Treatment Agency - London Tier 4 Service Survey
London Region NTA urgently needed to find out about levels of provision, future needs and planned provision for Tier 4 substance misuse treatment in the Capital. In a two week period, CPI's team devised the research study to find this information, carried out the analysis in 33 local drug and alcohol services, wrote up and reported back on its findings.
Lambeth PCT - Health promotion campaign
CPI was asked to help Lambeth PCT's Stop Smoking Advice Service get more quitters onto and through their programme. In the borough, there is a higher percentage of residents smoking than the national average, coupled with a high rate of cancer deaths. The efforts of the stop smoking team itself concentrated mainly on working with health professionals - gps, pharmacists and specialist clinics. We decided to introduce community-based clubs, provide and publicise easily accessible sources of help for smokers, unlikely to seek assistance from statutory sources. They included a very popular club where knitting was promoted as an alternative to keep hands busy, one in a library, one in a mother & toddler club, a rock climbing club plus drop-in sessions for local employers and tenants groups. All provided NRT for quitters and supportive and encouraging atmospheres. The PCT were delighted in the result - more than doubled the previous rate of successful quitters.
