"Commissioning Innovation" is our response to the rapid rise of innovation up the public sector agenda. Sir Gus O'Donnell, Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Civil Service, has expressed personal committed to embedding innovation in the way the public sector works.
He states that the reality of the current economic climate is that in the next few years the public sector must do more with less. A more dynamic way of delivering with fewer resources is imperative. The importance of innovation has also been demonstrated in the recent publication of the White Paper - "Innovation Nation" - published by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills earlier this year. Have a look.
A new way of not only working and commissioning, but thinking is now required. But how can you navigate through this new and confusing agenda?
CPI understands innovation
We define innovation as adopting new approaches that outperform current practice. It is not about seeking novelty or change for change's sake. Innovation does not have to be costly or highly risky but must lead to better performance.
For the last two years, we have produced "Commissioning News" - a ground-breaking disruption publication which highlighted the needs of commissioners and provided essential tools to enable better commissioning. We have covered pressing topics such as drugs, alcohol and older people and we are very proud of the impact it has made.
It's time to move on to a new disruption publication to the public sector. The new publication will focus on our passion - innovation and the commissioning of innovation.
