Outcomes
‘Outcomes’ is an increasingly popular term in the public and third sectors – and we’re delighted to see outcome-based approaches to services growing.
CPI is a pioneer of the concept in the UK. Following a Harkness fellowship in the USA, our founder Peter Mason adapted the outcome management approach to the UK public sector environment. He also edited the UK version of "Outcome Funding" ( Williams H., Webb A. and Mason P.) - a book filled with outcome learning and available from CPI.
Our expertise lies in taking any big outcome statement, such as the five outcomes from ‘Every Child Matters’ and making the connections that will drive and inform local service delivery and inform local commissioning.
Every year we train more than 1,000 frontline staff in outcome management to show them how it informs their work and how it affects the client journey. We also train managers and commissioners too to show them how they can use outcomes as the basis to commission services and performance manage their staff.
Our outcome portfolio includes:
• Outcome-based commissioning – how can you commission services that measure the impact that services have on client outcomes, rather than measure transactions and processes? Our outcome-based commissioning system will enable commissioners and managers to change the way they work, moving to an investment mindset which will also promote innovation.
• Outcome-based performance management – how can you record data about client outcomes, and what data should you be looking for? How do you align your service and delivery to the outcomes set in national strategies such as Every Child Matters? How can you monitor the performance of staff in relation to the change they make in clients? Our outcome-based performance management systems will enable you to achieve all of this.
• Outcome training – we can provide your staff, manager or board with the essential skills they need to understand all aspects of outcomes and outcome management and help you to make it happen.
